During the Depression he worked on harvesting crews in Saskatchewan, cutting pulp in Ontario, and on the Ford assembly line in Detroit. After he was married, John farmed at Chatfield for 37 years until his retirement to Teulon in 1976. He ran a sawmill and lumber planing operation for many years. Many buildings throughout the Interlake are built of lumber produced by Johns sawmill. During his years on the farm he was involved in the Manitoba Farmers Union and the Chatfield Community Club. In retirement, he enjoyed the Teulon New Horizons Club, participating in carpet bowling and card playing. John loved tinkering in his workshop and around the house, building and repairing anything and everything. John believed that necessity is the mother of invention. If he needed it, he built or fixed it. The family wishes to thank the doctors and hospital and ambulance staff and the home care workers for their care and support. Thanks also to family and friends for their kindness.
