Offer Condolences or MemoryRALPH STEWART REDMOND CD Suddenly, as a result of an accident, Ralph passed away on August 10, 2002. He will be lovingly remembered always by his daughter Sherryl; son Jeffrey (Christina) grandchildren, Breanne and Kieran Redmond; special friend Marilynn Slobogian (Courtney & Paulette) sisters, Hazel (Douglas) Redmond of Ottawa, ON, Ruby (Victor) Perrin, Halifax NS; mother-in-law, Beatrice Brooks. Also numerous family members in the extended Redmond and Brooks families especially his nieces and nephews who always enjoyed Uncle Ralphs company. Ralph was blessed with many friends and all will remember him fondly. Ralph was sadly predeceased by his wife of 32 years, Carol (Brooks) Redmond; also his sister Emma Bowes; brothers, Sidney and Hebert Redmond. Ralph was born in Centre Musquodoboit, NS on January 22, 1942, youngest son of Charles Herbert and Edith Sydney (Stewart) Redmond. Ralph enjoyed a happy childhood at the family home in Middle Musquodoboit. Being the youngest of six, he was doted on by his beloved Mother and sisters. Upon finishing his education at Musquodoboit Royal High School, Ralph made a decision that would affect the rest of his life. In 1957 at age 17, Ralph entered the Royal Canadian Air Force. Though it wasnt the chosen life his Father had in mind for him, Herbert and Edith put their son on a train to basic training at St. Jean, Quebec. After successfully completing his entry to military life he was posted to New Brunswick for a short time and then on to Gimli, MB. Ralph was in service as a meteorologist for the span of 30 years. It was in these early postings that Ralph met many life long friends and his future wife Carol. Carol and Ralph had a chance meeting at a party. Ralphs charms and friends wrangled Carol away from another suitor. From that evening on they were inseparable and married shortly after on June 25, 1966. Ralph and Carol enjoyed the military life and were excited about their foreign posting to Germany. They filled their time there travelling Europe and anticipating the birth of their first child Sherryl. Shortly after the family returned to a posting in Nova Scotia. It was here that their second child Jeffrey was born. For the next few years the family travelled as a typical military family to Moose Jaw then finally settling in Winnipeg. Ralphs postings included Portage La Prairie where he endured long commutes not wanting to uproot his family. Ralph also took a two-year posting on the H.M.S. Provider during which he travelled to distant ports. Ralph had a particular fondness for this time in his life as it fulfilled his lust for travel, something that he carried with him his whole life. In 1989 after an honorary discharge Ralph began work as meteorologist with the Manitoba Forest Service he remained in this position until he retired this past January 2002. Ralph and Carol were proud of the family they raised and were involved parents, often up at early hours to see Jeff and Sherryls hockey or ringette. Upon the birth of his first grandchild Breanne, Ralph bloomed in to a loving and involved Grampy. It was his greatest pleasure in life spending time and caring for his precious granddaughter, she was the joy in his life and what their relationship meant will live with Breanne forever. Ralphs second grandchild, Kieran was a whispered hope of what the future was and often spoke of wanting to pass on his love of the outdoors to him. After the death of his wife, Ralph was broken hearted and he turned to many close friends for support. One of these was Marilynn Slobogian. They had a companionship that bloomed into affection and they looked forward to a bright future together, possibly moving to the west coast. Ralph had many things to look forward to in retirement with plans to travel and see even more of the world. It is well known that he had a great love of nature and was an avid outdoorsman and hunter. What many may always remember most about Ralph was his quick wit and own special brand of humour. Ralphs family was a source of great pride to him. He was supportive of his childrens endeavours and his generosity to them was unending. They will carry their parents with them in all that they do, forever. The family would like to thank the numerous friends and family for their support during this difficult time. Also all the professionals the have helped the family in this tragic event. Ralph will be remembered through prayer on Friday, August 23 at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., and will be immediately interred in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Childrens Hospital Foundation Inc, CE 501,840 Sherbrook, Winnipeg, MB, R3A 1S1.
