LORNA JOYCE SAUNDERS (nee FREEMAN) Joyce died accident-ally on Tuesday, August 6, 2002. Joyce is survived by her husband George; sons, Tom (Kathleen) and Jim; grandchildren, Lisl and Jack; stepgrand-children, Rod and Riel Cloutier; and stepgreat-grandchildren, Heidi, Jasmine Cloutier; her sister Dorothy Bennett and her special cousin Kay Cameron in Toronto. Joyce was born and lived in Port Arthur, ON, until moving to Winnipeg upon her marriage to George. Joyce was very active in the community in volunteer work with the Junior League, the Womens Committee of the Winnipeg Symphony and canvassing for many charities. She was one of the original "Lake Moms" at West Hawk Lake where the family had a cottage for many years. In later years she and George spent much time at their new cottage on Lake of the Woods. She enjoyed many outdoor activities including walking and downhill skiing. She befriended many walkers and their dogs on the walks in Lindenwoods. Her lunches and bridge events with her friends were very special to her. Since 1990 she and George have spent their winters in Kimberley, downhill skiing, where they have developed many close friends. More than anything she enjoyed cooking for and entertaining her family and friends in her home. Joyce relished her roles as wife, mother and grandmother. Just prior to her death she and George had spent time at the lake with their son Jim and grandchildren, and an evening with the entire family together. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place on Friday, August 23 at 2:00 p.m. in Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1501 Waverley St., Winnipeg. No flowers please. Donations to a charity of your choice.
