WALTER JERRY BURBAN Walter Jerry Burban passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on Wednesday, August 21, 2002 at St. Boniface Hospital following a battle with cancer at the age of 67. He will lovingly missed by his wife of 35 years, Joan; as well as his brother Mike and Barbara of Toronto; nephew Taras and Donna and children, Alexa and Zachary of Ajax, ON. He will also be missed by his extended family, Joyce and Stan Smiley; Richard and Lorraine Kostyra of New York; Robert and Toni Kostyra; uncle to Sharlene Klymuik and son Skye; Linda and Ed Wilkowski and sons, Randy and Kris; and Andrea and Kaitlin Kostyra and Unc to Cory and Heidi Kostyra of Cookstown, ON. He was predeceased by his father William in 1952; his mother Mary in 1998; in-laws, Joseph (Joe) and Annie Kostyra in 1987 and 1994; his brother-in-law and fishing partner William (Bill) Klymuik in 1980. Walter started out delivering telegrams for CPR, then became a teletype operator and then mechanic. He worked for Canadian Press as a teletype mechanic before going into the amusement device business as Burban Coin Machines and then as W&J Coin Machines. His route was mainly in Fort Frances/Rainy River, ON. He worked very hard maintaining and upgrading his machines. Walter had a reputation for being fair and honest with people. Walter enjoyed family gatherings and being part of the Outlaws. He had many talents. He was a Mr. Fixit, liked having a garden and was a pretty good cook. Walter was a very special person in his way. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 25 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St., with funeral service on Monday, August 26 at 10:00 a.m., also at the chapel. Interment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery. Pallbearers are Richard, Robert, Cory, Ed, Skye and Randy. Honorary pallbearers are Taras and Kris. Thank-you to the many health care workers that provided service and care for Walter at CancerCare, Health Sciences Centre and St. Boniface Hospital and to family and friends who were so supportive during his illness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Walters memory to the St. Boniface Hospital Research Foundation or the Childrens Wish Foundation.
