GEORGIA MATTHEU Georgia Mattheu, 86 years old, beloved wife of the late Yiannis Mattheu, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2002, at the Souris Personal Care Home. Georgia was born on May 2, 1916 in Varvitsa, Laconia, Greece, the daughter of the late Stelios and Legiri Koutsoyannis. Georgia married Yiannis Mattheu in 1939, and they farmed in Greece until his passing in 1983. She moved to Canada in 1983. Georgia is survived by her three children, Leonidas, Aphrodite, and Kannella and their families; her brother Zoe; her sister Demetra; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends in both Canada and Greece. She was predeceased by her father and mother; her husband Yiannis; her brothers, Yiannis and Nikolas; and her sister Sophia. Prayers were held on Wednesday, August 21 at 7:00 p.m.and funeral service will be on Thursday, August 22 at 2:00 p.m. in St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 2255 Grant Ave., Winnipeg. Father Demetrios will officiate. Arrangements are in care of Kowalchuks Funeral Home, Souris, Manitoba. 483-2167.
