GOTTHARD THEO PETERSON 1919 - 2002 Peacefully on August 20, 2002 at the Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg, surrounded by his loving family, Gotthard passed away at the age of 83 years. He is lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 52 years, Helen; sons, David (Darlene), Leonard (Brenda) daughters, Joy (Lawrence), Joan (Clarence) grandchildren, Heather, Erin, Ashley, Eric, Andrew, Mark, Ryan, and Colleen. He leaves to mourn brothers, Alvin (Dorothy), Hartley, Victor, George, Art (Alice) and sister Margaret (Fred) and their families; as well as many relatives and friends. Dad was born April 3, 1919 at Teulon, MB. He was the oldest of seven children. He lived in the Norris Lake and Teulon area throughout his youth, later moving to Winnipeg to work in his chosen trade of carpentry. In 1948 he moved to Cypress River, MB where he met Helen Kamarous. They were married in 1950 and settled in the community to raise their family. Dad owned and operated G. Peterson Construction Co. Ltd. and built many buildings in the area and throughout Manitoba. He took great pride in the quality of his work. The family moved to Winnipeg in 1970 when Dad began his career with the Department of Indian Affairs and later Public Works Canada as a project supervisor. He had many opportunities to test his skills building in Northern Manitoba. This was a very exciting, challenging and rewarding time in Dads life. He made many friends in the north. He retired from the federal government in 1984. Dad was always ready to lend a helping hand to family and friends. His smiling face and warm personality will be missed dearly. He loved music and music was alive in his life. In his retirement years, his grandchildren reaped the benefits of his love as they enjoyed many wonderful times with their papa. He loved animals and they loved him. He took a special pride in his flower gardens and birdhouses. Curling was special to Dad and he made many friends through the sport. He curled for years in the mens league at Valour Road, and the government league at the Grain Exchange. Watching his children and their friends play sports was a favourite pastime. In later years, Dad enjoyed chatting with his many friends at Polo Park. The family would like to thank the staff of Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg, Unit D2, for their compassionate care. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 24 at 11:00 a.m. at the Klassen Funeral Chapel, 1897 Henderson Hwy., Winnipeg, with Rev. Michael Boulger officiating. Interment will take place at the Glencoe Cemetery, Cypress River, MB, at approximately 3:00 p.m., with Rev. Milo Spooner Craig officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dads memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, or the Canadian Diabetes Association. Jamieson Funeral Service of Baldur-Glenboro in care of arrangements. 1-204-827-2480.
