Second World War 434 Squadron (Bluenose) Peacefully on Tuesday, August 20, 2002 at age 80 in Gananoque, ON. Beloved husband of the late Grace Mason (nee Ridley). Cherished father of Jan Gordon. Dear father-in-law to Murray. Son of the late Kost and Martha Maxymiuk. Loving brother of Anne Strutt (late Jim) and William Mason (late Mary). Predeceased by his brothers, Stephen (Agnes), John (Helen), and Michael (Verna) and sisters, Mary (John) and Doris (Walter). He will be sadly missed by his many nieces and nephews. Norman served with distinction in the R.C.A.F. during the Second World War in the Bluenose Squadron (434) as a tail gunner. Norman retired from the R.C.A.F. as Flight Lieutenant, with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Manitoba. A career in the federal government followed. In his later years, Norman and Grace took up residence in Gananoque where he enjoyed boating, fishing and gardening. The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at the Carveth Care Centre. Their compassion and care to Norman over his time at the home made his last years peaceful. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Halifax Aircraft Association, 5444 Yonge St., Suite 1905, Willowdale, ON M2N 6J4. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 7 at 1:00 p.m. at the K.W. Montroy Funeral Home, 70 Pine St., Gananoque, ON. A reception for friends and family will follow after the service.
