Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGARNET SAMUEL GIBSON It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing, on August 22, 2002, of Garnet Gibson in the Emerson Personal Care Home. Garnet is survived by his beloved wife Lillian; his daughters, Greta Gibson and Lisa (Troy) Goodman; his cherished grandchildren, Chantel, Colin and Cara Goodman; sister Margaret (Lorne) Peto; sisters-in-law, Pauline Smith and Doreen Gibson; brother-in-law Ben (Sharon) Oakden; numerous nieces and nephews. Garnet was born on the family farm north of Emerson on September 19, 1920, the youngest child of Samuel and Rachel Etta Gibson. He was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Morley, Wallace, Ross and Elwood; his sisters, Hazel and Gladys. During the Second World War, Garnet served with the RCAF Construction and Maintenance Unit on Vancouver Island. Upon returning home, Garnet farmed for a few years. Subsequently, Garnet was employed by Canada Customs until his retirement in 1985. Garnet had been a proud member of the Emerson Legion No. 77 for over 50 years. He had a great fondness for sports. Of particular interest to him were baseball, curling and golf. He also enjoyed gardening. He was known for his quick wit. He spent many happy hours playing pool and socializing with his friends at the Emerson New Horizons Club. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Munsamy and all of the staff of the Emerson Personal Care Home for their excellent care and compassion over the past few months. Flowers are gratefully declined. Should friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the Emerson Personal Care Home or to the charity of ones choice. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27 from the Saint Andrews United Church in Emerson. Interment will follow the funeral service in the Emerson Cemetery.
