Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWALTER GEORGE HALIPCHUK Walter Halipchuk, aged 77, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 23, 2002, with his family by his side after a lengthy and courageous struggle as a stroke victim of 14 years. Left to cherish his memory is Stella, his loving wife of 51 years; his four sons, Merlin (Brenda), Barry (Caridad), Rick (Cathy) and Walter (Kristine) his grandchildren, Kevin, Steve, Ashely, Sara, Julia, Rachel and Ozana. He will also be missed by his brother Mike (Margaret) sisters, Jean Napora and Mary Mlodzinski; his mother-in-law Pauline Laschuk; brother-in-law Peter Laschuk; sisters-in-law, Helen Harper and Florence Grapentine; as well as many nieces and nephews. Walter was predeceased by his parents, William and Antonia; sister Stella Dutchak; father-in-law Joseph Laschuk; brothers-in-law, Charlie Mlodzinski, Mike Dutchak, Glenn Grapentine, John Harper and Peter Napora. Walter was born on July 25, 1925, in Winnipeg, MB, then moved to Cooks Creek, MB with his parents. On November 18, 1950, Walter married Stella Laschuk where they continued to reside in Cooks Creek for most of their married life. Dad was happy working on his farm, taking rides around Manitoba to check out the crops and gathering with friends and family for celebrations. His greatest pride and joy was his family, especially his grandchildren, each of whom hold a special place in his heart. Walter was employed by Westeel for 41 years as a shipper/receiver. At the same time he and his family operated the family farm in Cooks Creek. Walter was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Parish. He enjoyed working alongside Father Ruh in the building of the prairie cathedral and grotto. He was a charter member of the Cooks Creek Knights of Columbus No. 7002. He also served as a school trustee for Zora School. Prayers will be said on Tuesday, August 27 at 7:30 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Ukrainian Catholic Church, Cooks Creek, MB. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 28 at 10:00 a.m. also at the Church with Father Taras Kowch officiating. Interment will follow in the Parish Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kevin and Steve Halipchuk, Randy and Brian Mlodzinski, Robert Harper and George DeWandel. The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Kowaluk and entire care team at the Kin Place Personal Care Home for their compassionate care of our husband, father and grandfather.
