Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHOWARD RAYMOND WICKBERG June 12, 1921 - August 23, 2002 It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather on August 23, 2002. He will be lovingly remembered by his son John and children, Rena, David (Kirsten) daughter Wendy (Chris) and children, Jarrod, Jillian and Christopher; great-granddaughter Elyssa; and brother-in-law James Ross. Also left to mourn are several cousins who will miss his wit, humour and knowledge. Howard was predeceased by his wife Dorothy; his parents, Waldemar and Johanna Wickberg; and his sister Edyth. Howard was born June 12, 1921. He attended Machray School and St. Johns High School. He joined the R.C.A.F. in 1941 and served as a pilot until his discharge in 1945. He went to work for the Department of National Revenue and continued until his retirement in June 1976. He was awarded a City of Winnipeg Award of Merit for his work at the Riverview Community Club. In 1957 he built the family summer home at Twin Beaches on Lake Manitoba and spent many happy and enjoyable outings with family and friends. When the grandchildren were very, very young, he would take them for early morning walks at the lake so grandma could get a little extra "shut-eye". They always returned with beautiful wild flowers that graced the breakfast table. He loved nature and enjoyed feeding and watching the different varieties of birds, as well as the animals of the forest that would venture into his yard in the early morning. He was a man who took time to smell the roses! Howard possessed a friendly outgoing nature endearing him to all who knew him. He was a kind, gentle man with a wonderful sense of humour. He will always be remembered for his quiet wisdom, gentle strength and loving ways. Those who knew him, hold fond and happy memories of evenings playing cards, trips to the cottage, hunting trips to Netley where he liked to row his boat, happy hours on the golf course, winters in Texas, as well as all the numerous and traditional family celebrations. Cremation has taken place and interment of ashes will take place at a later date. Howard we will love you and miss you forever. You were very special to all of us. "Gone are the days we used to share But in our hearts you are always there Today, tomorrow and all year through We will always love and remember you".
