Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM MUNRO STEVENS On Tuesday, August 20, 2002 at the Carman Memorial Hospital in Carman, MB, William Munro Stevens, aged 83 years, beloved husband of Marian Stevens of Carman. William is survived by his wife Marian Stevens; two sons, Ken (Barb) of Carman and their children, Teri, and Chris; and Don (Debbie) of Moose Jaw, SK and their children, Kristen, and Ryan. He is also survived by two brothers, Fred (Fern) Stevens of Glenboro, and Ernie (Marion) Stevens of Brandon. William was predeceased by one sister Gwen Sanford of Virden. William was born on December 29, 1918 in Fleming, SK. He moved to Oak Lake in August 1919. During his younger years, by following his fathers love of music, he learnt how to play the trombone and was a member of his dads Oak Lake band. He continued his interest in music as a member of various bands including the Carman Community Band. After working for a couple of years as an assistant in a pharmacy he decided to follow his fathers career with the CPR. This job took him to Virden, MB where he met his present wife, Marian Duncan, who was nursing there in the local hospital. From then on he continued his career as a CPR station agent in Killaly, SK, La Riviere, MB, and Morden, MB. In all three locations, they lived in the railway stations right beside the tracks. For the last five years of his career with the CPR, he served as a mobile supervisor between Carman and Glenboro working out of his vehicle and living in Carman. In 1979, he retired from the CPR and had lived in Carman ever since his retirement. Funeral service will be held from the Carman United Church in Carman on Tuesday, August 27 at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Catherine Waldie officiating. Interment will be in the Westlawn Cemetery, Brandon, MB on Wednesday, August 28 at 10:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Arthritis Society, Suite 105 - 386 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 3R6 or to the CNIB, 1080 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3G 9Z9.
