MABEL "LAURA" WILSON (nee MAGNUSSON) May 7, 2002, at the Dauphin Personal Care Home, Laura, widow of Herman (Pudge) Wilson passed away at the age of 87. Laura was born in Winnipeg, October 19, 1914, to Grimur and Elin Magnusson. Predeceased by her parents; brothers, Fred, Chris; sisters, Grace Hills, Linette Penhallurick, Undine (Ellen) Hill and Georgia Wilford. Survived by sisters, Vigdes Peterson, Winnie Tetlock, Joan LeTroy and numerous nieces and nephews. She graduated from Kelvin High School and Normal School. She taught in many rural schools, in Charleswood and Norwood, also in Dauphin for several years until her retirement in June 1974. A dedicated teacher, she worked diligently to help her students reach their potential. A devoted and active member of her church, she worshipped at St. Andrews United, Winnipeg until 1957, transferring to St.Pauls, Gilbert Plains in 1958. She taught Sunday School, worked with C.G.I.T. and in Circle 3 at St. Pauls. She belonged to the Ladies Auxiliary Legion #98, serving as President and District Commander of 1 South on Provincial Council for Manitoba and North West Ontario. Laura was a Rebekah for over 60 years, a member of Dawn of Peace Lodge #60, she was a Noble Grand of Patricia Rebekah Lodge #46. For many years Laura enjoyed five pin bowling, maintaining a high average. She knit and crocheted profusely, was talented at crafts, including ceramics and was an avid reader. Laura loved theatre and enjoyed performing herself. She worked with Childrens Theatre in Dauphin and on plays and concerts in schools where she taught. A generous and caring person, Laura was a special Aunt who will always be lovingly remembered and greatly missed. A service celebrating her life was held at St. Pauls Church in Gilbert Plains, May 10, 2002. Ilene Dowd officiated, the Choir led the congregation in singing, accompanied by Charissa Ganczar, organist. A Legion Auxiliary Honour Guard was in attendance. Pallbearers were Stewart Birnie, Lorn Hockridge, Aaron Miner, Bill Miner, Donald Shumka and Robert Windsor. Interment was in the Eldon Cemetery. Friends wishing to do so may make a donation in Lauras memory to the St. Pauls Church, Gilbert Plains. Arrangements by Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Service, Dauphin.
