ARCHIE McLACHLAN 1910 - 2002 Peacefully passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2002, at the Seven Oaks General Hospital, Winnipeg, MB, Archie McLachlan, aged 92 years, of Winnipeg, and beloved husband of the late Doris McLachlan (nee Wouters) who predeceased him on August 23, 2002. Archie leaves to mourn his passing and to cherish his loving memory, children, Yvonne (Bob) Whetlor, Gay Leonard, Dawn (Brian) Hanson, Gloria (John) Gillingham, Terry (Bruce) Biggs, Peggy (Graham Common) McLachlan, Glenda (Wally) Rieu, David (Del) McLachlan; 18 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister Kay Zachary; and sister-in-law Doris Wouters; special cousins, Georgina and May Matchett; numerous nieces, nephews; and valued friends, Doug Hamill and Liv (Libby) Marsh. He was predeceased by his parents, Archibald and Eva McLachlan; brother Hugh; and sisters, May Dupasquier and Sadie Greenaway. Archie was born in Matchettville (Treherne), MB. Archie went to England with the Canadian Army in 1939. While overseas, he met and married Doris in 1945, bringing her back to Canada as a "war bride" in 1946. Archie and Doris lived in Treherne where Archie operated a dry cleaning business, later residing in various small communities in southwestern Manitoba, where Archie worked as a grain elevator operator. He and Doris moved to Winnipeg in 1950. Archie worked at Breens Motors, Western Smallwares, Co-op Service Station, and for 18 years, at the Manitoba Department of Highways garage on Midland Street. Archie and Doris lived on Jefferson Avenue for 43 years, recently moving to Amber Meadow Retirement Residence. Archie had a clever, inventive mind that he put to use every day of his life. He spent many hours of his life in community service, at Elmwood and Garden City Community Clubs (Executive Member and Coach) and at Grants Old Mill (Executive and Miller). Active until his death, Archie achieved his lifelong goal: to be doing something useful until the day he died, and "to wear out, not rust out." A man of honour and loyalty, he died mourning the recent loss of his wife of 57 years, Doris. Special thanks to Dr. J. Kreml, and to the staff and residents of Amber Meadow. Funeral service will be conducted by Rev. Robert Campbell from the Thomson Funeral Chapel, 669 Broadway at Sherbrook, Winnipeg, on Tuesday, September 3 at 11:00 a.m. Pallbearers will be Bruce Biggs, Wally Rieu, Tom Leonard, Mark Leonard, Daniel Biggs, and Evan Hanson. Interment will follow in Bethel Cemetery, Treherne, at 4:00 p.m. As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Archies memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 301 - 352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3B 2H8. T.J. Burnett Budz Funeral Service of Holland, MB in care of arrangements, 526-2380, 1-866-526-2606.
