CONRAD G. ANDERSON Peacefully on August 24, 2002 Conrad passed away at the Victoria Hospital with his loving, devoted wife of 50 years and best friend Ida (nee Krueger) at his bedside together with family. His personal and spiritual strength along with much support from his family enabled Conrad to battle his cancer with peace and dignity. We will mourn his passing as well as celebrate his truly remarkable life. Also left to nurture his memory are his five sons, James (Nina), David (Lynne), Bruce (Janet), Ronald (Pamela), and Douglas (Gina) as well as his seven grandchildren Samantha, Brent, Michelle, Derek, Sydney, Elisha and Ryan. We will attempt to do so with all the dignity and respect with which our father lived his life, each precious moment dedicated the enrichment of others. He was predeceased by his father and mother, Ingolfur and Laurensina, and his brothers, Helgi and Finnbogi. He will be greatly missed by his remaining brothers, Andrew and Christopher and sister Carol (Brian) as well as by many nephews, nieces, family and friends. Conrad was born on June 12, 1925 in Winnipegosis, a small Icelandic community in northern Manitoba where he grew up with his four brothers and sister. It was here that his great love for the lakes and streams of Manitoba flourished. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy in February 1943 and served his country with pride until 1947. He married Ida in 1951 and together made their home in Winnipeg where they raised five sons. A great joy for Conrad was the time he spent with his family in the outdoors camping, fishing or hunting. He worked for Brooke Bond Ltd., a tea and coffee company for 22 years after which he chose to begin his own small business. Together with his wife Ida, their business grew and flourished for 17 years, never losing sight of the strong moral values and ethics that helped guide them. Upon retirement in 1990 Conrad and Ida spent numerous winters in Florida close to the water he so dearly loved. Here they met many new friends, travelled and enjoyed their deserved rest. A truly selfless man, Conrad never put his personal wishes or needs before those of others. His love for his family, his faith and his love of life always saw him through difficult times and helped show the way for countless others. We have all been enriched for the time we have shared together with Conrad. A celebration of Conrads life will be held at the Hope Lutheran Church, 1400 Pembina Hwy., at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 28. Committal will take place immediately following the service at Garry Memorial Park, 1291 McGillvray Blvd. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Victoria Hospital Foundation. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Cam Lowden, nurses Linda, Heather, Teena and staff at Unit 5 of the VGH for their compassionate work and dedication to Conrads care. Also, a very special thank you to Charlene Shatsky, Conrads niece, for her remarkable strength and support for our family. LEATHERDALE GARDINER 1501 Waverley Street 949-4860
