Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWALTER GEORGE BENNETT It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather Walter George Bennett at the Grace Hospital on August 30, 2002. Besides his wife of 47 years Verna, George is survived by his son Guy (Chris) of Edmonton; and his daughter Fern (Tom) of Winnipeg; his two grandsons, Wyatt and Westin of Edmonton; and one granddaughter Tanya Thomas of Selkirk. His two brothers, Gerald (Al) and Harold (Doreen). One sister Audrey (Les) Anderson of Winnipeg. He was predeceased by his first son Larry in 1981, his parents, two brothers and two sisters. George was born at Matheson Island on June 20, 1931 where he spent his first 23 years. He then joined the air force and spent his next 25 years in Winnipeg, Germany and Cold Lake, AB. Upon his retirement in 1975 he returned to Matheson Island to build his home and become a commercial fisherman for his next 20 years. He eventually came to retire on the LaSalle River south of Elie, MB. George will be truly missed. A celebration of his life will be held at Matheson Island on Saturday, September 7 at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers please send any donations to a charity of your choice.
