Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRICHARD BERTRAM "ROSS" KENDALL September 3, 1925 - August 25, 2002 Peacefully on Sunday, August 25, 2002 our Dad passed away at Riverview Health Centre. He was a devoted husband to Elsie and a dedicated father and friend to Rick (Jeannette), Randy (Lisa) and Maureen (Bill). His five grand-children, Daniele, Gavin, Brent, Denis and Ross were the highlight of his life and he meant the world to them. He will be missed beyond words. Ross was born to William and Frances Kendall in Darlingford, MB on September 3, 1925. He grew up there with his brothers Tom and Jim and it was in Darlingford that he met his wife Elsie Morgan of Beulah, MB. Dad enlisted with the R.C.A.F. in 1943 and served overseas for the duration of the war. He and Mum were married on January 3, 1944. Upon his return home Dad worked at a general store in Darlingford until he joined the Manitoba Telephone System in 1951. Our family moved to Winnipeg in 1956 when Dad took a job in the Engineering Department where he worked until his retirement in 1985. Dad was associated with the Sons of Scotland, the Scottish Rite, the Acacia Masonic Lodge No. 111 A.F.A.M. and the Khartum Shrine. He enjoyed these associations very much. Dad was a man of many talents. He could build or fix anything. But his greatest talent was being a good friend to everyone. He touched so many lives and we are all the richer for it. If you so wish, donations to a charity of your choice can be made in memory of Dad. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 29 at 10:30 a.m. in the Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway. The interment will take place in the Beulah Cemetery on Friday at 1:30 p.m. THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211

I am researching the short life of Thomas Henry Howell (RAF) who lost his life on 24 March 1945. He shared a Lancaster (NG114, AS-S) of 166 Squadron with Richard. The aircraft was shot over Hilden, Germany. Richard Kendall was the only survivor, sent to Stalag Luf 1 on 31/3/45 and repatriated by the Russians on 30/4/1945. I am keen to discover if he shared any stories of the joint RCAF/RAF crew especially Thomas (who was only 21). Thomas was the Navigator. - Posted by: Roger Howell (Conection via aircrew in WWII) on: Jul 08, 2020
