HENRY BAKER Died peacefully Sunday, August 25, 2002 at St. Boniface Hospital. He is survived by his buddy of 62 years Jo; sons, Frank and Jim and their families; sister-in-law Clara Baker; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Phillip and Margaret; brothers, Phillip, John, Jack; and sister Margaret. Henry was born in Elmwood in 1914 where he and Jo lived for 56 years before moving to Grant Avenue. He served in the Canadian army during the Second World War returning to the meat packing industry where he worked for 40 years. After leaving the meat business at age 62 he enjoyed his five years at Flyer Industries where he perfected his cross-city shopping trips while performing his messenger duties. Henry was a longtime member of the Elmwood Curling Club and in his later years enjoyed his time walking at the Reh-Fit Centre. He and Jo camped across North America before settling at their campsite near Gimli where they treasured the friends they made. Henry was very proud of his grandchildren, Matt Baker, Nicole Richard, Greg Baker and great-grandchild Logan Richard. Henry and his family greatly appreciate the care given to him by the staff of the Palliative Care Unit at St. Boniface. For those who wish, donations in Henrys memory could be made to the CNIB, 1080 Portage Ave., R3G 0S1. As per his request there will be no service. There will be a family interment of his ashes.
