GILLES JOSEPH CHAMPAGNE Peacefully, surrounded by his devoted wife of 49 years and his family members, Gilles passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 76 years. His personal strength and the support of his family and friends enabled Gilles to battle cancer with peace and dignity. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Leona; sons, Denis (Lorraine) and Paul (Kristen) daughters, Claire (Jim) and Gisele; grandchildren, Jacqueline, Paul, Robert, Christine, Nicole, Mathieu, Jacques, Emily-Jane, Claire and Mac; great-grandchildren, Porsche and Seth; his brother Armand; and his sisters, Rolande Mondor (George), Therese Fraser and Antoinette Bourne. Gilles was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Aurore; his sister Cecile Carriere; and his brothers-in-law, Cliff Fraser and Don Bourne. Gilles was born on July 16, 1926 in St. Jean-Baptiste, MB. As a young man, he worked in northern mining towns including Red Lake, ON. He finally settled in Winnipeg and worked for Supercrete for 25 years where he enjoyed the friendship of many co-workers. He retired in 1992 and enjoyed 10 wonderful years of retirement with his wife Leona, children and grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the kind and competent staff of the Emergency and Palliative Care Units of the St. Boniface Hospital. A special thank you also to Dr. Gowtan at the Health Sciences Centre. Funeral mass will be celebrated by Father Blanchette at the Precieux-Sang Roman Catholic Church, 200 Kenny St. in St. Boniface on Friday, August 30, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. LECLAIRE BROTHERS in care of arrangements.775-2220.
