JAMES "JIM" McFADDEN Peacefully on August 28, 2002 Jim passed away at the Carman Memorial Hospital at the age of 84. Jim was predeceased by his loving wife Mildred in 1997. Jimmy will be dearly missed by his "boys", Terry of Brandon; Allan (Sharon) of Darlingford, their daughters, Patricia (Lionel) Braydon, Colby and Mackenzie Guimond of Oak Bluff, April (Steve) le Bleu of Winnipeg; Bob (Joanne) and their children, Josh, Marty, Garret and Brooke of Carman. He is survived by his sisters, Dorothy (Hugh) Patterson and Josie Compton; sister-in-law Margaret McFadden; brother-in-law Bob (Yvonne) Johnston; and many special nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, James and Sarah; in-laws, Ross (Blanche) brothers, Web and Bill (Gladys) sister Mabel (Bob) brother-in-law Cliff. Jim was born April 16, 1918 in Belfast, Ireland and immigrated to Canada with his family when he was ten. The family settled in the Opawaka District where they farmed and attended church and school. Jimmy received his first pair of skates at the age of 11 and his passion began for what would be a memorable hockey career. While playing for Carman Beavers in 1939 he was discovered by the Montreal Canadiens. After four years in the armed forces his NHL career began. He played with Portland, Montreal, Ottawa, Buffalo and Detroit. While in Detroit he received the Calder Cup, "Outstanding Rookie of the Year" and MVP for Detroit Red Wings in 1947-48 and won the Stanley Cup in 1949-50. He went on to play for Chicago and Calgary before returning home. Jim married Mildred Johnston of Carman in 1951 and started his family. They settled back to Opawaka District where he farmed and drove the school bus for many years. He kept busy with hockey on and off the ice, golfed, hunted, loved baseball and time with family and friends. Jim and Mildred retired to Carman in 1985. After Mildreds passing Jims time was spent with his granddaughters and great-grandchildren and watching his grandsons play hockey. He enjoyed his visits with us, his daily drives and the coffee shop time with his friends. "Jimmy" you will be truly missed. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 3 at 11:00 a.m. at the Carman Pentecostal Church, Carman, with Pastor Glen Driedger officiating. Private family interment to follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Viewing on Monday 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Doyles Funeral Chapel, Carman.
