Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCHRISANTHI ZARUBA (nee PAGIATI) 1936 - 2002 It is with deep and profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother Chrisanthi on August 27, 2002 at the Seven Oaks General Hospital, after a valiant battle with heart disease. Chrisanthi was predeceased by her husband William (1994), her mother Aspasia (1988), and father Prokopi (1975). Left to cherish her memory are her loving daughters, Mary (Don), Kathy (Jason) and grandson Christopher; sister Marina Scagnetti of Corfu, Greece; her furry companion Zoe; grandpets, Tina, Bobo and Oz; and numerous friends and relatives in Winnipeg and Europe. Mom was born on October 18, 1936 in the village of Benitses on the Greek island of Corfu. She immigrated to Canada in 1956 and made Winnipeg her home. She married dad in February 1965 and together they built a close knit family. She worked in the food services industry for many years and will be remembered as a very hard working woman. "Ma" was only 411, but feisty and a force to reckoned with. Dads nickname for her was "sputnik". She would do anything for us and made sure we never went without. Ma was an awesome cook and we always looked forward to holidays when we could indulge in her home cooked meals. She also had an extraordinary green thumb and could bring any plant back to life from the brink. She grew beautiful geraniums (her favourite plant) and a bountiful garden each and every year up until her health declined, preventing her from continuing her hobby. Her body may have weakened, but her spirit remained tough to the end. Her loss has left an enormous gap in our lives. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 31 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. A private family interment will take place, with a gathering of family and friends to follow in the Glen Eden Reception Centre. Flowers are gratefully declined. Should friends desire, a donation may be made to the Manitoba Heart Foundation, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8. "You left us wonderful memories, we think of you with pride, and though we cannot see you, you are always by our side. A family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same, but as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again. Rest in Peace, Ma. You will forever be in our hearts.
