RUSSELL GILBERT BOBYCHUK
Date of Passing: Aug 29, 2002
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRUSSELL GILBERT BOBYCHUK Peacefully, on August 29, 2002, Dad passed away into the merciful care of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ at the age of 73. He leaves to mourn Mary, his loving wife of fifty years; his children, Terry (Janice), Rick (Brenda), Carla and David (Halyna) his grandkids, Travis, Chelsea, Brittney, Ryan, Nicole, Paul and Stephen; his brother Joseph (Kathy) his aunt Mary Polson; and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, in-laws and friends. He was predeceased by his father Ignatius in 1989 and his mother Rose in 1995. Dad was well known for his volunteer work in the West Kildonan sports community. He loved most sports, but his passion was for hockey, which he coached for some thirty years. We grew up as rink rats cheering for, playing on, and even coaching on dads hockey teams. Many Winnipeggers undoubtedly remember bringing home "the championship" while playing for dad. When wintery Saturday nights werent spend at "the rink", we would watch Hockey Night in Canada, and pick sides. Would we rile dad up and cheer for the despised "Maple Buds", or join him in rooting for the dream team, the Black Hawks? Dad was proud of his work for the local Ukrainian Catholic Church. He enjoyed serving as a member of the Knights of Columbus St. Josaphat Council, and also served on the executive of St. Josephs U.C. Church. His indelible legacy to the Church can be seen at the magnificent grotto at Cooks Creeks Immaculate Conception U.C. Church, at which he, and others, tirelessly worked to help complete. Only those closest to Dad knew of his love for art. He was blessed with great artistic talent, and attended the Winnipeg School of Art until his family situation prevented him from furthering his studies. This was one of Dads great regrets. However, after retirement, he once again tried his hand at painting, much to our delight. Dad, we will always cherish these memories of you, and we will miss you dearly. Prayers will be said at 7:00 p.m. Monday, September 2 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, September 3 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Josephs Ukrainian Catholic Church, 250 Jefferson Ave., with a Redemptorist Father officiating. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Dad to the Parkinsons Society of Manitoba. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193
