Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryREV. DEACON DMETRO (DON) HAFICHUK In the early morning hours of Friday, August 30, 2002, Rev. Deacon Dmetro (Don) Hafichuk passed peacefully into a new life with his God. His life and memories will be forever preserved in the hearts and minds of his loving wife Helen; his children, Mary Ann Supleve, Gregory and Michael; his daughters-in-law, Dallis and Jan; and in the hearts of his nine grandchildren. His brother Rev. Orest Hafichuk; and his two sisters, Mrs. Mary Prestayko and Mrs. Jean Boyechko also survive him. Deacon Don was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Dora Hafichuk; his brothers, William, Nicholas, Alec and Fred; his sister Pauline Korolyk; and his son-in-law Michael Supleve. Deacon Don was born on October 6, 1923 in Sifton, MB. His dedication to family had him working the family farm until he left to serve his country from 1943 to 1946 in the Canadian Army. In October, 1950 he married the love of his life, Helen Waroway in Dauphin, MB. Together they moved to Winnipeg in 1954 where they successfully helped establish and operate two family businesses, National Foodland Ltd. and Sell-Rite Wholesale, until his retirement. Don was very active in his church community and served faithfully on the Parish Council during the building of St. Michaels Church. His natural leadership ability assisted him in serving two terms as the Grand Knight of the St. Josephat Council Knights of Columbus, as well as countless positions within parish organizations. After many devoted years to the church, Donald followed a calling to serve his faith. Showing dedication and sacrifice, he achieved his dream and was ordained a Deacon in the Ukrainian Catholic Church in 1981. Over the past 20 years, he touched the lives of many parishioners both young and old, and served faithfully in many parishes in the Winnipeg and surrounding area. His ability to share advice with those in need and his great love endeared him to many and earned him great respect from his extended family in the Archeparchy. He will be dearly missed by all that had the privilege of knowing him. Parastas will be sung on Tuesday, September 3 at 7:00 p.m. (tonight), at St. Michaels Ukrainian Catholic Church, 400 Day St., with Rev. Fr. Andrew Wach officiating. Pontifical Divine Liturgy will be sung on Wednesday, September 4 at 10:00 a.m., also at the church, with His Grace, Most Rev. Michael Bzdel, C.Ss.R., D.D., officiating. Interment to follow at Holy Family Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in memory of Rev. Deacon Hafichuk be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the St. Michaels Building Fund. VICHNAYA PAM YAT KNYSH FUNERAL CHAPEL 1020 MAIN STREET 582-0973
