CHARLES SHNIDER Charles Shnider, of Victoria, BC, passed away August 27, 2002. Charlie was born June 30, 1924 at Sheho, SK. The family moved to Inglis, MB, when he was three and spent the next 26 years there where they operated a retail store. Charlie was a Director of the Manitoba Retail Merchants Association from 1948 through 1953. He joined Trans Canada Airlines in the Purchasing & Stores Division in the fall of 1954, later moving into the Sales Department and spent time in reservations, airport customer service and the city sales office. He became a Quality Performance Analyst, then a Reservations Supervisor. His last appointment was that of Sales Representative, a position he held when he retired from Air Canada in May of 1983. He was a Past President of the Kiwanis Club of Winnipeg and was President-Elect of the Kiwanis Club of Winnipeg Foundation Inc. He and his beloved wife, Diana, moved to Victoria in January 1986. They became active in helping to establish the Jewish Community Centre of Victoria. Charlie was a founding Vice President and then became President of the JCCV. He was also on the board of the First Open Heart Society of BC and he enjoyed doing Front of House at the Langham Court Theatre. He leaves to mourn his dearest wife Diana, most truly loving daughter Sharlene (Paul) Forest, his cherished grandchildren, Shauna and Even, brother Maurice (Renee), niece Janet Brett, nephews, David and Lee, mother-in-law Fanya Gershman, brother-in-law Harold Gershman and wife Kathy, sister-in-law Beverly and husband Marc Schlechter. Charlie was also grateful for his many loving and devoted friends and relatives. Thank you to our incredible and caring Dr. Kevin Wiley, and the wonderful 6th floor South nursing staff at the Victoria General Hospital, Victoria, BC. Charlie, you were such a gentle and kind person and you touched so many lives with your sweet nature. You loved to travel but most of all you loved life in Victoria and the joy we shared together in everything we did was always kept alive with the thought that "once this day goes, you never get it back, so enjoy!" Charlie, you gave me 30 exciting, wonderful and cherished years. You will always be in my heart. Diana. There will be a celebration of Charlies life at the Jewish Community Centre at 3636 Shelbourne Ave., on Saturday, September 14, 2002 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be sent to the First Open Heart Society of BC or the Vancouver Island Cancer Centre.
