EVA JEANNE COUGNON CARPENTIER It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Eva Carpentier on September 1, 2002 at the Golden Door Geriatric Centre at the age of 98 years. Eva was born July 11, 1904 in Poursay-Garnaud, France. She was predeceased by her husband Gabriel Carpentier, a son George Carpentier, a daughter Louise Gomien Lent, a son Maurice Carpentier and son Achille Carpentier. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Mrs. Eva Scandrett (Rodney) of Palm Desert, CA, 24 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. In the 1930s she was the councillor for the village of Marchand at the R.M. of La Broquerie. At a centennial dinner in 1967 she was honoured as being the first woman councillor in Manitoba. Eva will be greatly missed by her family and all those who knew her. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 4 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Edward J. Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald St. Funeral mass will take place on Thursday, September 5 at 2:00 p.m. in the St. Emiles Church, 556 St. Annes Rd., with Fr. Rene Peeters officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Boniface Cemetery, 917 Archibald St. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made in Evas memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8.
