MARTA XENIA LEWYCKY-KOSTIUK (nee LEWICKY) Born April 16, 1923 Unexpectedly on Sunday, September 1, 2002, Marta Lewycky-Kostiuk passed away peacefully at the Concordia Hospital after a brief illness. She was 79 years old. She was predeceased by her son Roman Ivan Lewycky on August 7, 1966; her husband of 30 years Vsevolod (Walter) Lewycky on December 31, 1976; and her husband of 11 years Volodimyr (Walter) Kostiuk on August 22, 1992; and sister-in-law Daria Lewicky on August 25, 2002. She leaves to mourn her daughters, Anastasia (Eya) Zariwny (Alfred) of Edmonton and Lydia Lewycky (Tom Horrocks) of Fredericton, NB; brother Oleh Lewicky of Winnipeg; and granddaughters, Larissa and Andrea Zariwny of Edmonton. Marta was an active volunteer and supporter of the Ukrainian community. Most notably she was a member of the Ukrainian Canadian Womens Committee - National Executive, and the Ukrainian Canadian Womens Committee - Manitoba Chapter for over 30 years, serving as president and secretary for both organizations. She was also active with the Ukrainian Catholic Womens League of Canada and the Executive Archeparchy of Winnipeg, serving president and secretary among other positions. Marta retired from her job as store supply attendant at Victoria General Hospital in 1981, after more than 20 years of service. Marta was generous of spirit, artistically creative and compassionate to the plight of others. Her delightful sense of humour carried her through her travels in life. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends. Prayers will be held on Thursday, September 5 at 7:00 p.m. at the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of St. Vladimir and Olga, 115 McGregor St. Funeral service will be held on Friday, September 6 at 1:00 p.m. at the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of Vladimir and Olga. A private family burial will take place directly after the service, followed by a reception at the cathedral.
