Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHERBERT "DANIEL" LIVINGSTONE 1919 - 2002 With great sadness we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Herbert Daniel Livingstone. Dan quietly left us on Saturday, August 31, 2002 at Seven Oaks General Hospital, Winnipeg. Dan is survived by his wife of 59 years Thora; daughter Gayle (Ken) Paige (Winnipeg) and granddaughter Allison; daughter Judy (Tim) Gallagher (California), grandsons, Bill (Tammy) and Jaret Klymchuk, great-grandchildren, Sarah and Billy; daughter Danna (Chris) Olbrecht (Winnipeg) and granddaughter Kacie. Dan is also remembered by his sister Florence (Bill) Crozier, brother Newman (Violet) Livingstone, and sister-in-law Kay Muir, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Maude and George; in-laws, Margaret and James Muir; brother-in-law Wilson Muir; son-in-law Bill Klymchuk; and grandson Jordan Paige. Dan was born June 11, 1919 in Winnipeg, grew up in the Riverview/Fort Rouge area, attending Riverview, Lord Roberts and Kelvin High schools. Dad lived almost his entire life in Riverview, other than his stint in "The Service", and after his retirement, when they purchased their dream home in North Kildonan. Dan served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War. While stationed in Montreal in 1943 he met and married his lifelong partner, Thora Muir. They returned to Winnipeg at the end of the war and Dan resumed his career at Eatons. Dan worked at Eatons for 44 years - holding numerous positions in both the catalogue, retail store and distribution locations. Eatons was his life, he was a loyal employee, always demonstrating diligence, dedication, dexterity and direct focus on the task at hand. Upon his retirement he worked for Sklar Furniture for three years - servicing Eatons stores. This gave him new challenges and opportunities to travel western Canada. Dans interests, hobbies and pursuits were varied and diverse. In his younger years he was very interested in music, playing both the mouth-organ and the violin, later he honed his photography and square-dancing skills, then swimming, water-skiing, camping, carpentry, "Mr Fix-It", auto mechanics, gardening and taking numerous night school courses. Dan was always a sports enthusiast, being a longtime season ticket holder of the Jets and Bombers. He was supportive of the pursuits of his children and grandchildren, constantly bragging of their achievements! The family spent many wonderful years camping at Brereton Lake and St. Malo. Dan loved the outdoors, loved "puttering" and "taking a dip". He cherished the time spent, and the special friendships made there. Dad was interested in everyone and everything, always striving for the best. He gave us all insight into ourselves, challenged us to achieve what he knew we were capable of, and lauded our achievements. We know he will be with us always, in our hearts and in our memories. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. R.L. Brownlie, on Thursday, September 5, at 10:00 a.m. at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg. Interment and reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Childrens Wish Foundation, 350 St. Marys Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3C 3J2.
