Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEORGE STEPHEN MARYK 1915 - 2002 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of George S. Maryk on Saturday, August 31, 2002 at the age of 87 at Holy Family Nursing Home. George is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Anne; daughter Georgina Smith (Dave) grandchildren, Wayne Smith, Debbie Dierckens, Judy Helbig (Sven) seven beloved great-grandchildren, Laura, Lisa and Sara Smith, Daryl and Karl Dierckens, Logan and Quinn Helbig. He is also survived by his sisters, Jenny White (Dick), Steffie Copen (John) brothers, Jim (Doreen), Victor (Terry) as well as several nieces and nephews and his long time friend and loyal business associate, Art Ganchow. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Bill (Vicki), Mike (Ann) and sister Olga Chambers (Tony). George was born and educated in Winnipeg, where he was involved with the operation of the family store and rooming house business. He later worked for Claydon Construction for 20 years before moving to the Bird River area in 1955 where he founded and personally built Tall Timber Lodge as well as numerous fly-in fishing lodge operations. George was a true entrepreneur and had the foresight to see a promising future for the then largely undeveloped Bird River and northern area. He had a gruff outward manner and a heart of gold and he particularly loved small children who he always had a "treat" for when in his store. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. Prayers will be said on Tuesday (tonight) September 3, at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 4, at 10:00 a.m., also at Cropo Chapel, with interment following at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Kidney Foundation, 200-55 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 1L8 would be greatly appreciated. The family would like to thank the staff at Holy Family Nursing Home.
