Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN ALEXANDER TURNBULL, FSA It is with deep sadness we announce that John Alexander Turnbull passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, at Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg on Saturday, August 31, 2002. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Betty of 43 years; son David (Jackie) daughter Nancy; and his beloved dogs "Holly" and "Tia". John is also survived by Jimmie, Margaret and Clark Turnbull (Victoria) Rod and Myrna McRae (Kelowna), and Kirby and Curtis McRae (Winnipeg). John was predeceased by his parents, John and Dorothy Turnbull and his infant daughter Susan. John was born on April 24, 1930. He was raised in East Kildonan and attended Prince Edward, Glenwood and Lord Selkirk schools. He received his Commerce degree, with Honours from University of Manitoba in 1952. John studied to be an Actuary and received his Fellowship from the Society of Actuaries in 1963. John had a long and successful career as an Actuary. He joined his father in 1957 and established Turnbull and Turnbull Consulting Actuaries. John loved his work and derived great pleasure from working with his staff and clients over the years. He was recognized as an expert in the pension and benefits field, and was respected for his honesty and integrity in his business dealings. John was a lifelong fan of the Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers baseball teams. He enjoyed spending time at Dodger spring training in Vero Beach, FL. In his younger years, John enjoyed golfing and curling. He was also a fan of the Winnipeg Jets, Blue Bombers and the Goldeyes. John also enjoyed many wonderful times at the family cottage with his family. One of Johns greatest loves was his dogs. He spent much time playing with his beloved pets, and cherished the visits from Holly and Tia over the past few months. John embraced his illness with great courage and dignity. The love and companionship from family and friends provided him much support and comfort over the past few years. We are relieved that his struggle is over and are thankful for the quality time we shared. We would like to thank the staff at Middlechurch Home for their quality care, compassion and support, especially during the past few days. Thank you to the staff at the Alzheimers Society (Gerri & Kim) and the Early Alzheimers Support Group. Thank you to all our friends and family for all their love and support. A special thank you to Lawrence and Helena Haberman, Sam and Marie Fabro, Tony and Marian Wyenberg, and Lenore and Vic Patkau (Calgary). Cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating Johns life will be held at John Black United Church, 898 Henderson Hwy., on Thursday, September 5 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society, Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg, The Winnipeg Humane Society or John Black United Church.
