JOAN HILDA WALL March 2, 1948 - September 2, 2002 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dearly beloved wife and mother, Joan Wall. Born in Georgetown, Guyana, Joan spent her early years in her hometown caring for herself and her siblings. During the 1960s, she married her first husband John Lashley, with whom she had two children, John and Jennifer. In 1978, she and her children immigrated to Winnipeg where she eventually met and married Richard Wall. They have shared many happy years of marriage with their two children, Tara and Brenna. Joan will be remembered as someone who opened her heart and home to family, friends and strangers. She was a warm and caring person who always put the needs of others before her own. A hard worker, Joan never shirked her duties and was more than willing to take on her share of responsibilities. For those who knew Joan during her lifetime, they can appreciate her many talents and her sense of duty towards family. Always seeking a challenge, there was never a task too great or too small that Joan couldnt manage. An eye for the right fit Joan was an excellent seamstress who lived by her own motto "measure twice - cut once". Blessed with a green thumb, Joan spent many hours cultivating flowers to decorate her home and growing vegetables to be canned in the fall. Those who enjoyed the fruits of her labour can appreciate her hard work. Joans greatest gift was her ability to bring together family from near and far. Her house was a place where one could always find a hot meal and a warm bed. People often met in Joans home, her source of pride and joy. The many years that she spent planning and creating a loving home became more that just a place to live it turned into a gift for Richard, Tara and Brenna. Her family and friends will always be welcome. Joan will forever remain in the hearts of those she left behind: her husband, Richard Wall; daughters, Tara and Brenna Wall, and Jennifer Rhodes; son, John Lashley; grandson Zacharay Freeman; sisters, Shelly Anderson, Patricia Choy, Donna Wong, and Barbara Dookram; brothers, Dennis Choy, Tyrone Choy, and Michael Choy; her mother, Celestine Choy; mother-in-law, Eva Wall; her sister-in-law, Norma Marr; numerous relatives and her many friends. Joan was predeceased by her father Frank Choy; her father-in-law, James Wall; and her late husband, John Lashley. A special prayer of thanks goes to her close friends, Bonnie Nelson and Susan Quesnel, for their many hours of dedication towards Joan and her family during the final weeks of her illness. Our family wishes to express their gratitude to the Palliative care staff at Riverview Health Centre for their compassion and kindness. We also would like to thank Dr. Brandes and the Oncology staff at CancerCare Manitoba Foundation for the care and support they gave to Joan over the years. Services will take place on Friday, September 6 at 3:00 p.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1501 Waverley St., with interment to follow at Garry Memorial Park, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joans memory to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9. "Heal me, O LORD, and I shall be healed; Save me, and I shall be saved: for thou art my praise." LEATHERDALE GARDINER 1501 Waverley Street 949-4860
