REV. ABRAM M. FRIESEN 1909 - 2002 At 8:05 a.m. on Tuesday, September 3, 2002, at the age of 93 years, Rev. Abram M. Friesen, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed peacefully into a new life to be with his heavenly Father. Abram Friesen was born July 2, 1909, to John and Maria Friesen in the village of Reinfeld near Winkler, MB. In his youth he was an avid hockey and ball player. He also was a lover of music and sang and played many instruments. On October 5, 1930, he was married to Justina Peters. They were blessed with four children, daughter Marion and husband George Penner of Steinbach, grandchildren, Brian, Robert, Harold and Valerie and husband Richard Markovitz; son James and wife Patricia of Winnipeg and grandchildren, Michael and wife Debbie and Kimberly and husband Todd Smukowich; son Abe and wife Eileen of Steinbach and grandson Christopher; son John and wife Karen of Chapel Hill, NC, and granddaughter Adrienne. Also surviving are eight great-grandchildren. Abram Friesen was predeceased by his wife Justina on April 29, 1989. On September 29, 1990, he was married to Edna Parbery. Also left to mourn his passing are Edna and her family; son Gary and wife Suzanne; daughter Cathy and husband Alan Willey; and grandchildren. Abram Friesen was ordained into the ministry in the Rudnerweidner Church where he served his Lord for many years. He was the founder of the Winkler Gospel Mission. He also did a radio broadcast on KFGO and later a TV broadcast from Valley City, ND. When they moved to Winnipeg he began his telecast "Happy Home" which he faithfully carried on for 25 years. He made cassettes and videos for the many people who requested them. He was very dedicated to serving his heavenly Father and the many people he came to know through his ministry. At the age of 93 he was still operating his computer and taking and printing pictures of friends and family using his digital camera. Since February he was in the hospital numerous times and life became very difficult. He was finally able to go to his much anticipated heavenly home. The family wishes to thank Dr. Hayward and the staff at Victoria Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Union Gospel Mission, Box 1073, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 2X4, or to the Association for Community Living. Funeral service will take place Sunday, September 8, 2:30 p.m., at the Winkler Sommerfeld Mennonite Church, Rev. Abe Wiebe and Rev. John L. Friesen officiating. Interment will follow at the Rosenbach Cemetery, north of Winkler. Wiebe Funeral Home Winkler in care of arrangements. 204-325-4201.
