JOYCE STUART PICKARD (nee ADDIE) Peacefully, on September 1, 2002 at West Park Manor, Joyce passed away at age 89 with her daughters by her side. Joyce will be sadly missed by her daughters, Susan, Margie, and Joan; her son-in-law John Walker; and her grandchildren, Ian and Andrea. She is also survived by her cousin Toni Moffat in Aberdeen, Scotland. She was predeceased by her husband Edgar in 1996 and her four sisters. Born in Aberdeen, Scotland on November 17, 1912, Joyce was the youngest daughter of Ann and Robert Addie. Upon completing her education, Joyce was accepted for nursing training at the Hospital for Infectious Diseases. After graduation, she went on to London for further training at the University College Hospital, graduating in 1939. She joined the Territorial Army Nursing Service and was posted to Calcutta, India. While there, Joyce met her future husband, Edgar Pickard, a Canadian surgeon with the British Army. They were married in Calcutta on November 27, 1944. After the war they made their home in Winnipeg where Edgar took up his practice in plastic surgery. After retirement, they spent 20 wonderful years in Victoria before returning to Winnipeg in 1993. Joyce will be remembered by all who knew her as a kind and gracious lady as well as a very fiesty one. Her family will remember all of the giggles we shared over the years. Our heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at West Park Manor who became Mums extended family over the last 3 years. Your caring and compassion will long be remembered. The special attention given by her friend Rita Ross added so much to her quality of life. The family is also grateful to our friend Connie Macdonald for her part in caring for Mum. A memorial service will be held at West Park Manor Personal Care Home, 3199 Grant, on Sunday, September 8 at 5:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to West Park Manor Personal Care Home, 3199 Grant Ave, Winnipeg, MB R3R 1X2 or the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10-120 Donald St., Suite 200, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
