Date of Passing: Sep 04, 2002
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKENNETH HAROLD YOUNG Suddenly, on September 4, 2002, Kenneth Harold Young, at the age of 53, died in his sleep at Luther Home in Winnipeg. Ken was born in Winnipeg and grew up in Charleswood until he was injured in 1970. He lived at West Park Manor in Charleswood until 1987, and Luther Home until his death. He was predeceased by his parents Harold (1983) and Del Young (1991), and brother-in-law Larry Munnion (1986). Ken is survived by his sister Ruth Marie (Munnion) Newton (Vita, MB) niece Karen Young (Munnion) and great-niece Lauren; nephew Craig Munnion and wife Danielle Allin, great-nephew Stephen, and great-niece Kalaika; and faithful friend of his youth Susan (Schroeder) Curran and her family (all of Winnipeg). Ken attended Dieppe School and Charleswood Collegiate, and worked for his Dad at Bowyer-Boag Plumbing & Heating Ltd., receiving his Journeyman Sheet Metal Worker certificate just after he was injured in 1970. Ken loved children; he adored his niece and nephew Karen and Craig, and had great love for Susans brother Blair Schroeder. How he would have loved his "great" family! A natural athlete, Ken played hockey as a boy, and for three years, assisted his brother-in-law Larry coaching minor hockey at Varsity View Community Club in Charleswood. He loved the outdoors, and his summers were spent at Big Whiteshell Lake, where he enjoyed fishing, swimming, and wild and woolly water-skiing! Ken also loved cars, especially his bronze Olds Cutlass, working on them, and going to car races of all kinds. Kens family wishes to offer heartfelt thanks to Jim Gessner, Roy Hardie and Irene Barron and the staff at Luther Home, and to Dr. Sokolies and the staff at Seven Oaks Hospital for their kindness and compassion. Funeral service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, on Monday, September 9, at 12:30 p.m., following which Ken will be buried near his Mum and Dad at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715

My late brother, Glen, coached Ken’s hockey team in the 1960s. Ken and I didn’t know each other well, but he was always kind and friendly to me. People like Ken were what made Charleswood a good place to live, and the source of many good memories. R.I.P. - Posted by: Bill Stevens (Schoolmate) on: May 17, 2024
