He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Minnie; sons, Ron (Doreen), Ray (Janice) daughter Marlene Bryka (George). He also leaves his pride and joy, great-granddaughter Tessa Vaughan. Numerous nephews and nieces are also left to mourn his passing. He was predeceased by his parents, Adele and Valentin Dilk; brothers, Rudolph, Philip, John, Valentin, and twin Eddy; sisters, Caroline, Mary, and Eleanor. Fred and Minnie spent their early years of marriage farming in the Waldersee and Glenella districts. During this time Fred was actively involved in the church and community. He sang in the choir and participated as a 4-H Club leader and school trustee. He also loved the outdoors; he was an avid hunter, curler, and baseball player. Fred frequently took Minnie to the local dances to polka and visit with friends. In 1966 Fred and Minnies life took a new direction when they sold their farm and moved to Brandon. He found employment at Jacobson and Griener where he was a faithful employee until his retirement in 1981. He enjoyed his retirement years wood working, gardening, and having coffee with the boys at "Humpties". In 1996 Fred and Minnie moved to Winnipeg where they resided until his passing. Freds greatest loves in life were his devoted wife, family, and faith in God. With his wife by his side, Fred always encouraged and supported his familys activities and interests. He was very proud of his entire family, their successes and achievements. He also demonstrated a strong commitment to his faith, as the Lutheran Church always played a significant role in his life. Many heartfelt thanks to the staff on Rehab Area, N1 North at Concordia Hospital and Poseidon at Central Park Lodge for their care and compassion. The family would also like to express their sincere gratitude to Pastor Brad Schollenberg for his constant kindness, dedication and support. A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, September 10 at Peace Lutheran Church located at 350 Gilmore Ave. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations can be made to the Peace Lutheran Church Memorial Fund. Family and friends will always remember and cherish Freds outgoing nature and his great sense of humour.
