Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySONJA ISABEL LEGIEHN (nee GUSTAFSON) On September 5, 2002, with her loving husband at her side, Sonja, aged 64, closed her eyes and passed on to the loving arms of the Lord after a valiant battle against cancer. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be sadly missed by her loving husband of 45 years, Helmut; her eldest son Nore (Esther) and their children, Cassandra, Christina and William (Kitchener, ON) her daughter Dolores (Ron Northrup) and their children, Ellery, Aron and Stacey (Boerne, TX) youngest son Kelly (Barb) (Rainy River, ON). She also leaves her sister Dolores (Jim McBride) (York, PA) several nieces and nephews; aunts; uncles; and friends. She was predeceased by her parents; and her brother Gary. After her retirement from Investors Group in 1995, her time was spent with Helmut at Falcon Lake during the summer months and their Florida home during the winter months. One of their favourite past times was chasing a golf ball around. Helmut and his family wish to express their eternal gratitude to Orla and Jim for all their help during her illness. Thanks to Val for making a special trip to cheer her up. The family also wishes to extend their thanks and appreciation to the doctors, nurses and all the other staff on 3E of the Riverview Health Centre for making Sonja comfortable during her illness and the comfort they provided the family in their time of need. A memorial service will be held at St. Georges Anglican Church, 321 Pandora in Transcona, on Monday, September 9 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, we would ask you to send your donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 9Z9 or the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2. God saw that she was getting tired, And a cure was not to be, So He put His arms around her, And whispered, "Come with Me". With tearful eyes we watched her suffer, And saw her fade away. Although we loved her dearly, We could not make her stay. A golden heart stopped beating, A hard working hand laid to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best. Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
