JEAN SAWICKI (YASCHESHYN) Peacefully on September 8, 2002, at Tache Centre, Jean passed away at age 85 years. She leaves to cherish her memory son Ed Sawicki (Judy) daughter Judy Adam (Eckhard) granddaughters, Dianne Pederson and Janet Sawicki; grandsons, Chris, Kyle and Jeffrey Adam; and five great-grandchildren. Also left to mourn her passing are her sisters, Kay Kazina, Helen Dasko, Emily Jackson and Violet Kerde; and one brother Frank Yascheshyn; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Jean was predeceased by her husband John; and by her brothers, John and Casey. Jean was born in Melrose, MB on November 16, 1916, the eldest child of John and Regina Yascheshyn (Wazny). Jean made her way to Winnipeg as a young girl and while working at St. Boniface Hospital met, and married John in 1938. Together they owned and operated a grocery store at 418 Horace for many years. Jean was very much a people person, who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. She could be found working in her garden or chatting with a passing neighbour. She also loved singing and listening to old time music. She was most joyful in the company of family and enjoyed nothing more than a ride to the country or a weekend with her beloved grandsons. Her lovely and genuine smile will remain in our hearts forever. Thank you to the entire staff of Tache Centre especially the staff and volunteers of 3 ABC, as well as pastoral care for the many years of excellent care and kindness given to Jean. A memorial service will be held Thursday, September 12 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St., Winnipeg, at 11:00 a.m. Private interment. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
