ARNOLD PJETER ANDERSON
Born: Jul 08, 1919
Date of Passing: Sep 09, 2002
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryARNOLD PJETER ANDERSON It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Arnold Pjeter Anderson at home, with his family by his side, on Monday, September 9, 2002. He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife Grace; daughter Laurie-Lou and husband Gerry Yurkiw of Portage la Prairie, MB; son Dwight and wife Cheryl Anderson of Thunder Bay, ON; grandchildren, Daylen and Dayna Yurkiw, Shawn and Carrie Anderson, and pet cat Tommy Boy, who laid by his side until the very end. Arnold was born on July 8, 1919, one-half mile south of the Steele Bridge, where he would live his entire life, less one year. He was the second child of Peter and Greta Anderson and a brother to Gordon, Harvey, Lorraine and Roy. He received his education at Steele Bridge and just recently Arnold spoke to his first school teacher, 97 year old Ms. Edna Miller. During his youth Arnold was an avid horseman. He and the Bjarnarson boys would take to hunting wolves on horseback, sometimes ending up as far away as Langruth. He and his brothers would work side by side, shearing sheep with Gordon for $2.50 a day, custom combining as far south as the state of Kansas with Harvey, and chasing cows home with Roy. Sometimes he and Roy would end the day with Chinese food and some music on the mandolin and guitar. Before succumbing to arthritis, Arnold enjoyed playing music with his friends and neighbours, often playing for the Steele Bridge/Woodside dances and parties. On May 14, 1955, Arnold married Grace Johnson from Lonely Lake and together they raised their two children, Laurie-Lou and Dwight. They moved to the family farm and worked with his parents until purchasing the farm in 1962. They continued raising cattle until ill-health forced him to sell his herd in 1979. He was a dedicated cattleman, preferring to go hungry rather than see his animals short of feed. Despite many years of ill-health and permanently losing his sight in 1989, Arnold always took great pride in his children and grandchildren. He always enjoyed a visit from family, friends, neighbours and young people. A hearty greeting and a handshake were his trademark. Arnold will also be missed by his sister Lorraine and husband Gordon Robertshaw of California, brother Harvey and wife Vi Anderson of Gladstone, brother Roy and wife Rose Anderson of Gladstone, sister-in-law Vi Anderson of Gladstone, many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and neighbours. Arnold was predeceased by his parents Peter and Greta Anderson; brother Gordon; niece Leanne, ten brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law. Many trips have been made by family and friends over the years, using the Steele Bridge as a landmark and guide to turn down the road to see Arnold. As time goes by, landmarks are torn down and replaced, and the ones we love pass away. But in the empty place in our hearts, we will forever cherish the memory of our husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, neighbour, and friend...Arnold. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Oddfellows and Rebekahs Memorial Eye Foundation, 132 - 4025 Roblin Blvd., Winnipeg, MB, R3R 3V5. Clarkes Funeral Home, Gladstone in care of arrangements.
