Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPHYLLIS ELEANOR STEWART (nee ROBSON) 1921 - 2002 On September 8, 2002, Phyllis Stewart, beloved wife of the late H.M. (Mel) Stewart, passed away at Riverview Health Centre. Mrs. Stewart was born in Winnipeg, the daughter of the late Wm. F. (Red) and Marjorie Robson. A graduate of Kelvin High School, and the Collegiate Division of United College, she graduated for Winnipeg Normal School in 1939. After teaching in rural Manitoba, Mrs. Stewart joined the staff at Laura Secord School in Winnipeg where she taught until her marriage in 1944. Following the war, she and her husband settled in St. Vital where she resided until 1979. During her student years she participated in Winnipeg Musical Festivals, in piano solo and school choirs for many years. Later, at Laura Secord school she assisted with entering the elementary school choirs. She was a past member of the Guardian Council of Bethel No. 2 Jobs Daughters, St. Vital and a past member of the Mothers Auxiliary of Red River Chapter, Order of DeMolay. She was a member of the Evening Auxiliary of the Missionary Society of Regents Park United Church, prior to the formation of the U.C.W. when she became a charter member. Following her husbands death in 1966, Mrs. Stewart joined the staff of the Elizabeth Dafoe Library at the University of Manitoba. Later, she returned to Winnipeg School Division No. 1 as head of the ordering department at the Teachers Library and Resource Centre. Due to her failing health, she retired in 1977. Besides her husband Mel, Mrs. Stewart was predeceased by her precious daughter, Donna McInnes of Brandon and two grandsons. Her only brother Pilot Officer Arthur E. Robson was killed in action with the R.C.A.F. in 1944. She is survived by her son Norman and daughter-in-law Catherine, grandchildren, Shannon and Sean McInnes, Brittany and Candice Stewart and her son-in-law Lawrence McInnes and his wife Kim of Brandon. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 12 at 11:00 a.m. at Churchill Park United Church, 525 Beresford Ave. Interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery.
