SUSAN (SUSIE) BRAUN Susan (Susie) Braun of Rosser, MB passed away peacefully on September 10, 2002 at the Grace Hospital at the age of 73 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born April 21, 1929 in the Dominion City area to Jacob J. and Helena Janzen. She is survived by her beloved husband Jacob (Jake) two daughters, Marilyn (Lyle) Walde of Winnipeg, Delores (Bob) Willms of Richmond, BC; one son Gordon of Cecil Lake, BC.; also by five grandchildren, Brian, Evan, Ruthann, Rachel and Katy; three brothers, George (Kathy), Jake (Margret), John (Marge) and a large circle of relatives and friends. Susan was predeceased by her parents and her stepmother. Susan grew up on the family farm at Dominion City, and was active in her church communities at Ste. Elizabeth and Arnaud teaching Sunday school and singing in the choir. Her mother passed away when she was 20 years old, and Susan assumed the responsibilities of the household, caring for her father and three brothers. When her father remarried, Susan moved to Winnipeg, attending Canadian Mennonite Bible College and later working for the McLeods store. In 1960 she married Jacob Braun and moved to Meadows, MB. She loved to garden, always planting more than she needed, so that she would have some to give away to friends and neighbours. Flowers were also an important part of her life. She often brought home new plants that she had discovered when visiting her friends and planted them in her many flowerbeds. Susan also enjoyed cooking, often cooking for a crowd at the Meadows Community Hall, Camp Assiniboia, Gimli Bible Camp, Autumn House, and at banquets, weddings, anniversaries. Friends and family often requested her recipes. Her hands were never idle (as her childhood nickname "Buzz" suggested) and she was always working on a project, whether it was knitting, crocheting, needlework, sewing or quilting. Viewing will be between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 13 at Klassen Funeral Chapel, 1897 Henderson Hwy. The funeral service will be held at Eastview Community Church, 3500 DeVries, on Saturday, September 14 at 10:30 a.m. Following a reception at the church, interment will take place, at 3:00 p.m., in the family cemetery in Dominion City. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. A. Schroeder and the 5th floor staff at Grace Hospital for the care given to Susan during her most difficult times. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Mennonite Central Committee (MCC), 134 Plaza Dr., R3T 5K9 or CancerCare Manitoba, ON109 - 675 McDermot Ave. R3E 0V9. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338-0331.
