Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTHEODORA THORSTEINA (STEINA) MARTIN It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing on Wednesday, September 11, 2002 of our Mother and Amma, Steina Martin, aged 85, of Gimli, MB, a longtime resident of Husavik. Steina was predeceased by her loving husband of many years, Siggi, in 1981. She was the last surviving member of her family, predeceased by her brothers, Albert, Pete, Einar and an infant at birth, and sisters, Ella, Lilja and Anna. Steina leaves to cherish her memory sons, Ted (Sandy) and Lorne (Maggie) granddaughters Tracy (Cam) and Tiory (Kelly) great-grandson Kolton; and special friend sister-in-law Snowy Peterson. Mom was born at Hvarfi, the family homestead at Husavik on April 12, 1917. She married Dad on May 20, 1944. After many years of working on the family farm, tending her ailing parents and raising the family, Mom went to work at Betel Home Foundation until her retirement in 1991. Mom was very active in the community being involved in such things as Husavik and Gimli Lutheran Churches, Husavik Ladies Aide and New Horizons Senior Club. Music played an integral role in her life and instilled this love of music in her sons and grandchildren. Mom was well-known in the area for her singing and her various musical talents. She had a kind-hearted, unassuming personality and the door was always open to all with coffee and sweets on the table. Her biggest delight was making sure everybody had lots to eat. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, September 14 at 2:00 p.m. at the Gimli Lutheran Church with Pastor George Johnson officiating. A private family interment will be held at Husavik Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to a charity of your choice. Goda Nott Alskin Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements.
