EVELYN MARGARET VANDEKERCKHOVE It is with great sadness that our family announces the sudden passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Evelyn Vandekerckhove, at the Grace Hospital, on Friday, September 13, 2002. Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 58 years, Leon; daughter Bonnie (Jim Buckle) son-in-law Jack Campbell; son Dennis (Kerry Vandekerckhove) son Jerry (Robyn Vandekerckhove) son Eddie (Dawn Vandekerckhove) grandchildren, Kim and Howard Alexander, Jim and Susan Buckle, Jackie Buckle, Gerri-Lynn Buckle, Corinne and Greg Popoff, Kristen and Denis Marion, Scott and Tammy Campbell, Denny Vande, Brent, Greg and Jeff Vande, Kevin and Kristi Vande; also great-grandchildren, Breanna Kowalchuk, Nicole, Chelsea and Mitchell Buckle, Sarah, Bethany, and Rebecca Popoff, Britttany and Courtney Marion, Kayla and Kyle Campbell; along with brother Henry (Kay) Elliott; twin brother Lawrence (Minnie Elliott) brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, and many nieces. nephews, and cousins. Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, Francis and Jessy Elliott; sisters, Winifred and Alice-May; and brothers, Frank, Edward and Bill; and daughter Judy Campbell. Evelyn was born in Stony Mountain on December 11, 1926. She married Leon Vandekerckhove on February 19, 1944. She has lived in Stony Mountain her entire life where she and Leon have raised their five children. She thoroughly enjoyed the sport of curling, both as a fierce competitor and later on as a spectator and supporter. A highlight in Evelyns life was when she was made a life-member of the Stony Mountain Ladies Curling Club. She was also a member of the Stony Mountain Legion Ladies Auxiliary Branch No. 142. Evelyn enjoyed many evenings of Bingo at various community centres, accompanied by her numerous friends. Family was the most important thing to Evelyn. She taught her children to value the love of family, and to respect others. She would often say it cost nothing to be nice. The family wishes to extend a special thank-you to Dr. A. Kahn for his devoted care of Evelyn over the years. We also want to thank Dr. Mohamdee, Dr. Aboobaker, and nurses and ambulance attendants at the Stonewall Hospital for their care and compassion. Prayers will be held at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel in Stonewall, on Sunday, September 15, at 7:00 p.m. A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, September 16, at 2:00 p.m. at the Stony Mountain Recreation Centre, Deacon Jules Reznik officiating. Pallbearers will be her eight grandsons, Jim and Jackie Buckle, Scott Campbell, Denny, Kevin, Brent, Greg and Jeff Vande. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Evelyns memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association. Interment will follow at the Christ Church Cemetery, Stony Mountain. "Pet, We will always love you". MacKenzie Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
