MARGARET KETCHESON 1910 - 2002 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Adrianne Ketcheson, on Monday, September 9, 2002 at the age of 91. Margaret passed away peacefully with her daughter at her side in Melbourne, Australia. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Howard John Ketcheson, in July, 1985. She was deeply loved and will be dearly missed by her four children, daughter Adrianne Ketcheson and friend Michael Kennedy of Melbourne, Australia, daughter Kathy Bunney, and husband Fred of Calgary; son Doug Ketcheson, and wife Angie of Winnipeg, and daughter Jo-Ann Babb, and husband Jeff of Winnipeg. Also left to mourn are her grandchildren, Darrell, Lisa, and Derik Bunney of Calgary and Maureen and James Babb of Winnipeg. Margaret was born in Duluth, Minnesota on December 9, 1910. She lived most of her life in Winnipeg, as well as a short period of time in the Grand Beach area. She will be remembered for her adventurous spirit and love of life. In her youth Margaret was a downhill skier, a powerful swimmer, and baseball player. During the depression and Second World War she worked at Eatons where she met her husband Howard. As a parent, she was very active in the community, taking time to be involved in school activities such as the parent teacher council, (Harrow School) and the school Brownie Program. She worked for many years in the cafeteria at Manitoba Hydro on Taylor Ave. One of her favourite places in the world was Falcon Lake where she spent many summers camping, swimming "off the rocks", canoeing and boating with Howard and her family. She also enjoyed visits to Grand Beach and Gimli. Her children learned to love and respect the outdoors on these long summer days with their mother. After Margaret retired, her adventures continued. She spent each year, including this past year, when she was 91 years old, visiting her daughter Adrianne, in Australia. On these trips Margaret always made time for swimming and boating off the Gold Coast of Queensland, as well as attending a variety of functions with her daughter. In accordance with the wishes of the family, cremation and a funeral service has taken place in Melbourne, Australia at S. A. Hollibone and Sons Funeral Chapel. A service of remembrance will also take place at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. on Friday, September 20 at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimers Society of Manitoba, 10-120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 4G2, or another charity of choice. The family wishes to thank the Nuns, staff and students at Mt. St. Josephs Girls College, in Melbourne, Australia, for their support during this period of mourning that has occurred so far away.
