VIRGIL SWAN ROBERTS Makoons (little bear) Virgil Swan Roberts, of the Lynx Clan (bizhoo), our beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew, grandson, cousin, and friend crossed over to the spirit world on September 16, 2002. His maternal grandparents Harry and Mary Roberts; paternal grandfather Stanley Nelson; Aunts, Genevieve and Evelyn, and cousins, Robert and Roberta await his arrival. Many friends and relatives remain to mourn his passing. Virgil, Anishinabe inini of Roseau River Anishinabe First Nation, came into this world and into our lives on the first of November in 1980. It is difficult to remember him without recalling his willingness to work; to support himself, his community and his family. He was also a volunteer firefighter, which he enjoyed. Virgil graduated from Kickinghorse Job Corps in Ronan, Montana with a grade 12 diploma and a certificate as a heavy equipment operator. During the 21 years he spent with us, Virgil enriched all of our lives. He lived life with a steadfast appreciation for the gifts that came his way. His appreciation for his brothers, sisters, nephews and nieces was shown in the time, patience and love that he was always eager to share with them. There are many, many things we will miss about Virgil. However, one of the most important things will be his ever-present smile. He will be sadly missed by his father John Nelson and stepmother Cheryl; brothers, Matthew, Carlyle, Taylor and Callahan; his mother Lynda Roberts and stepfather Morley; sisters, Sharlin and family, Nadine (Donovan) and family and Kiera; grandmothers, Marjorie (KoKo) and Rosie. Left to mourn are the Nelson family, his cousin Gina and her brothers, sisters, nephews and nieces, Uncle Charles and family, Uncle Kevin and family, Uncle Terry and family, Auntie Marilyn (Nelson) and family, Uncle James and family, Auntie Jackie and Auntie Josi (Chris) and family; the Roberts family, Auntie Jeanette (Edwin) and family, Auntie Joyce (Ken) and family, Uncle Carl (Millie) and family, Uncle Bernie (Elaine) and family, Uncle Floyd, Uncle Gary (Sylvia) and family, Uncle Glen (Marie) and family, Auntie Sharon and family, Uncle David (Hazel) and family, Auntie Robyn and family and Uncle Dorian (Joanne) and family. The wake is being held at the Roseau River Anishinabe First Nation Training Centre. The traditional funeral will also be held at the Training Centre on Friday, September 20 beginning at 10:00 a.m. The burial will follow at Roseau Rapids.
