JOEL CRERAR STEWART 1954 - 2002 Joel Stewart passed away peacefully on September 20, 2002 leaving those who loved him deeply saddened. After a long and courageous battle with cancer, his suffering has been relieved. His wife Pam and children Kate and Charlie mourn the loss of a wonderful husband and father. His love for them was as boundless as theirs for him will be endless. Joels life was the definition of charity and compassion. Whether it was those who were blessed with having him as a close loved one, or a stranger in need of a helping hand, he seemed constantly on the lookout for ways to either ease pain or deliver joy. Joel grew up in Winnipeg, attending Westwood Collegiate where he starred in athletics and shone on the theatrical stage. He moved to Calgary shortly after graduating and attended Mount Royal College where he studied to become a social worker. It was a natural fit. He was more than just an outreach worker. To the homeless in Calgary and those who were down on their luck - he was a friend who made a sometimes cold and frightful city a little warmer. He moved on to become a counsellor with the Workers Compensation Board, and continued to bring warmth into peoples lives through his devotion to his position as Coordinator of the Inn From The Cold program at his local church. He did it all with a marvellous, whimsical sense of humour, a warm smile and a limitless capacity for caring. Joel will be remembered with deep affection by his wife Pam Krause; children, Charlie and Kate Stewart; mother Thelma Stewart; sister Charlene (Brian) Baker and their children, Mackenzie and Colleen (Peter) uncle Bob and aunt Gladys Stewart; aunt Jean Lewis; aunt Dorothy Stewart; sister-in-law Jane Krause (Keith) and nephews, Paul and Mike Wheeler; sister-in-law Susan (Doug) Ramsay and their children, Lara and Logan, and countless friends and relatives whom he touched in so many ways. He was predeceased by his father George. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Elisabeth Woolner. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, September 24 at 3:00 p.m. at Riverview United Church, 900 - 47th Ave. SW, Calgary. FIRST MEMORIAL FUNERAL SERVICES, 240 - 17th Ave. SW will handle arrangements. Ph. 216-2222. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to Inn From The Cold Society, 117 - 7th Ave. SW, Calgary AB, T2P 0W5.
