ADELHEID (HEIDI) ELSE KOOP 1939 - 2002 Adelheid (Heidi) Else Koop passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2002 at St. Boniface Hospital (Palliative Care). Heidi was born on April 27, 1939 in Winnipeg to Peter H. and Mary Koop. She grew up in North Kildonan where in 1955 she was baptized and accepted as member in the North Kildonan MB Church. She graduated from Mennonite Brethren Collegiate Institute, Manitoba Teachers College (1959), University of Manitoba (1970) and received a Master of Divinity degree from Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminaries, Elkhart, Indiana (1978). Heidi taught in the River East and Transcona School Divisions and at Elim Bible Institute, Altona. She also worked at MB Communications, Bethania Personal Care Home and the Huntington Society of Canada. In 1986 cancer was diagnosed and from that time Heidi struggled courageously to regain wellness. She was faithfully cared for by Dr. Chris Turner of the Manitoba Naturopathic Clinic. There were many good years when friendships, church involvement, drawing and photography filled her life. This spring she enjoyed a brief but satisfying vacation in Germany. Heidi was predeceased by her sister, Edith Koop Dyck in 1980, her father Peter H. Koop in 1990 and her mother Mary Koop in 1998. She is survived by relatives and friends who rejoice with her that she is at peace. A funeral service for Heidi will be held in the River East Mennonite Brethren Church on Tuesday, September 24 at 7:00 p.m. Viewing will take place prior to the service. A volunteer choir will rehearse prior to the service at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mennonite Central Committee.
