Date of Passing: Sep 11, 2002
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROSE ESTHER BORODKIN It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Rose Esther Borodkin on Wednesday, September 11, 2002, at the Simkin Centre of the Sharon Home at the age of 81 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Sharon (Barry) Posner and Allan (Elaine) Borodkin; and her four grandchildren, Adam, Daniel, Adena and Kera. She was predeceased by her husband Harry and her parents, Falek and Freda Zolf. She is survived by her brother Michael Zolf of Edmonton; her sister Judy Schwartz of Scottsdale, AZ, and brother Larry Zolf of Toronto and numerous nieces and nephews. Rose was born July 12, 1921, in Kamentz, Litovsk, Poland. She arrived in Winnipeg on January 30, 1928, with her mother, her sister Judy and her brother Michael. She was educated at I. L. Peretz Folk School until grade 5 and attended Mitel Shul to grade 10. She then went on to Machray School and graduated from St. Johns High School. After high school Rose went out to work. She met Harry Borodkin, married in 1942 and had two children, Allan and Sharon. Rose loved her parents deeply and would have done anything to help them. The closeness that she felt for her siblings was so intense that in her eyes they could do no wrong. Her family meant everything to her. Rose was a very loving, caring wife, mother and grandmother. One could always sit down to discuss things or seek advice from her. She always had time for everyone. As a very giving, generous and hospitable person, her home was open to all. Rose was a very compassionate person and always worried about other people more than herself. She was very diplomatic, always thinking first before she spoke. Rose had many friends and touched peoples lives wherever she went. She was a very intelligent woman with a wonderful sense of humour. Along with being an avid reader, both in English and Yiddish, Rose was extremely well versed in everything that was going on in the world. Above all, Rose was a very dignified lady and will be sadly missed by her entire family and all who knew her. The family would like to thank the outstanding staff of the Simkin Centre, first floor, Star of David Wing for their dedicated and compassionate care during our mothers illness and also Dr. Pearlman for his wonderful care through the years. Many thanks go out to Cantor Gerry Daien for the beautiful eulogy he gave for our mother. A graveside funeral was held at the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery on Thursday, September 12 at 2:00 p.m. with Cantor Gerry Daien officiating. Pallbearers were Murray Posner, Adam Posner, Daniel Posner, Cort Posner, Morley Vinsky and Avrum Kaplan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rose Borodkins name to the Simkin Centre of the Sharon Home or to a charity of choice.
