WILLIAM ALEXANDER "ALEX" HAZELWOOD On May 23, 2002 at Surrey Memorial Hospital in Surrey, BC, Alex passed away with his daughters by his side, after a short, but very courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 74. He was predeceased by his father Sidney in 1978; mother Margaret in 1992; sister Gladys Nacinovich in 2001 and his beloved Lydia in 2001. Left to mourn his passing are his four daughters, Kathy (Grant) of Edmonton, AB, Gwen, Nadine (Mike) of Surrey, BC and Heather (Howard) of California; his four grandsons, Christopher, Joel, Kyle and Tyler. He will be sadly missed by his three sisters and four brothers; Doreen (Jim) Stansfield, Margaret Cooney, Louise Walstrom, Sid (Dora) all of Winnipeg, Michael (Audrey) of Ear Falls, ON, Fred (Blanche) of Calgary, AB and George (Margaret) of Neepawa, MB, along with numerous nieces and nephews and close friends. Alex was born on February 10, 1928 in West Kildonan and was raised and educated in Stony Mountain. He served in both the Royal Canadian Navy and the Army. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 49 years. In 1969, Alex moved with his family to British Columbia, where he continued his career in Power Engineering until his retirement. After he retired he continued to work part-time with the Commissioners and the Frontiersmen until his health began to fail. A memorial service was held on May 29, 2002 in Surrey, BC. Cremation has taken place. Please gather with us to celebrate a remembrance of Alexs life at a memorial service on Monday, September 23 at Christ Church Anglican in Stony Mountain at 4:30 p.m. with officiating clergy, Rev. Colin MacIver and Rev. Audrey Hazelwood. Alex will be laid to rest in Stony Mountain Cemetery, where he will be together with his beloved parents once again.
