Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROY HAMILTON PARKHILL Accidentally on September 14, 2002, at Kenora, Lake of the Woods, Roy Hamilton Parkhill sadly lost his life in the waters of the lake he loved so much. Born April 28, 1931 in Winnipeg, he is survived by his loving wife Nancy Ann; and his dearly loved children, Tara Brousseau (Robert), Timothy (Christel), Ted (Kesia) and Jeffrey. He was so proud of his children, their spouses and his 10 grandchildren. Roy followed their accomplishments with great interest. His wife and family were always the focal point of his life and we have lost him far too soon and will remember him with love forever. Grandad will be missed by Royden, Scott, Bryce and Kathleen Brousseau; Cierra, Shanlyn and Devienne Parkhill; Olivia, Caroline and Edward Parkhill. He was predeceased by his parents, Roy and Isobel Parkhill and sister Lois Mackenzie. He is survived by his sister Ann King and brothers-in-law, Jack Mackenzie and Ted Holland. To his children he gifted his love of learning, integrity and his great respect for people. They all inherited his interest in downhill skiing, sailing and life at the lake. He had a passion for life and was a loyal friend to many. His life was rich with family and friends. Just a week before his untimely death, he attended a reunion in Alberta of 21 close university friends. A man of many interests and talents, he was an avid reader and student of archaeology, history, geology, woodworking and politics. Most of all his family will miss his "Royisms". Roy was General Manager of Parkhill Bedding, Investment Advisor with Richardson-Greenshields and RBC Dominion Securities, retiring in 1999. He attended Tuxedo School, Ravenscourt, United College, and University of Manitoba and was a member of Zeta Psi Fraternity. He was very proud of the fact that his three sons also became Zetes. Roy was a City Councillor for Tuxedo 1971-1977, member of the Convention Centre Board and the Forks Renewal Corporation, Past Director Rivers and Streams Committee, past member Woods Committee Labour Relations Advisory Board, member of the original committee to acquire the first Pan Am Games, Past Commodore of the Royal Lake of the Woods Yacht Club, recipient of the City of Winnipeg Community Service Award, honorary life member of the Progressive Conservative Party of Manitoba, past board member of the Zoological Society, Health Sciences Centre and Rainbow Stage, a lifetime member of the Winnipeg Squash Racquet Club and President of the Jesters Club 1966, Past-President of the Winnipeg Rowing Club, member of Toastmasters International, member of the Manitoba Club and the Saturday snooker group. His many accomplishments including winning 11 gold medals at Northwest International Rowing Regattas and numerous squash titles. Roy was also a graduate of the Banff School of Advanced Management and was very proud to own a private pilots license. The family wishes to thank the Kenora Police Service, the diving team and Constable Lloyd White for their help, consideration and respect. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 25, at 2:30 p.m. at St. Andrews United Church, Oak and Kingsway. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Crohns & Colitis Foundation of Canada, 306-2265 Pembina Hwy., Winnipeg, MB, The Kidney Foundation, 200-55 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB or the Cat-Scan Fund at the Kenora Hospital, Kenora, ON.
