Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLAWRENCE GEORGE CURRIE WASHINGTON Lawrence George Currie Washington passed away peacefully on August 11, 2002, at his home in Ninga, MB, at the age of 87. Lawrence was born at Yorkton, SK, on May 22, 1915. His parents were Henry and Mary (Duns) Washington. Lawrence was the eldest of six children, Gordon, Velma, Connie, Glen, and Shirley. He was raised on the family farm five miles south of Ninga where he later farmed for many years. In his younger years Lawrence ran several gravel trucks and did custom harvesting in the United States. In 1940 he married Isabel May Barry and was blessed with five children: Jean, Lois, Jim, Brenda and Susan. Lawrence was well-known as an excellent curler and avid fisherman. He also spent 60 dedicated years as a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 36. After 55 years of farming, Lawrence retired to Ninga and spent much of his time remodelling classic cars and tractors. Lawrence had recently returned from a trip to the Okanagan, BC, and Calgary, AB, where he visited with family. Lawrence was an honest, hard-working man who honoured his word and accepted his responsibilities without a second thought. He gave generously to his family and friends and he never turned down an opportunity to help make his loved ones lives a bit easier. Although he faced many hardships in life, Lawrences drive and determination in the face of adversity made him a family role model. Therefore, his strength of character, his kindness and reliability will be greatly missed by all. Lawrences role as the family patriarch will be impossible to replace. Lawrence is survived by his wife of 62 years, May; his sisters, Velma Hay and Connie Ranson, his five children, ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, sons-in-law, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as dozens of close friends, whose lives he touched. In accordance to Lawrences wishes, a private funeral service was held on Friday, August 16 at the Wheatland Chapel, Killarney, MB, and burial at Ninga Cemetery. Donations may be made in Lawrences memory to the charity of your choice. Lawrences memory will live on in the hearts of those he has left behind. He will always be remembered and he will always be greatly missed.
