CONSTANCE MAY BOWMAN (nee ROBERTS) 1925 - 2002 Constance died on September 21 after a brief battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Hattie Roberts; her sister Jean; her brother Murray, RCAF, killed in action July 1944; her son John Murray; and her granddaughter Susanne Elizabeth. She is survived by her husband John; her daughters, Catherine Pokotylo (David), Anne Bowman (Randall Rogalsky), Mary Margaret Mazzei (Edwin) her son Thomas (Susan) grandchildren, Heather and Jonathan Pokotylo, Jean, Lindsay, James and Lauren Rogalsky, Bridget and Julie Anne Mazzei. Constance met John while attending Gordon Bell High School. She graduated in nursing from the Winnipeg General Hospital in 1949 and married John in the same year. Subsequently, she supported him while he completed his internship in medicine. While he was in rural general practice, she not only was his nurse but was also his bookkeeper and accountant. He could not have managed without her. After rearing five children, she spent many years as a valued nurse member of the Winnipeg Rh Institute plasmapheresis team. Over the years she was involved in many volunteer activities. The one closest to her heart was counselling and support of AIDs patients and their families. She maintained an active interest in, and support of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, the Winnipeg Symphony and the Manitoba Theatre Centre. She also had great pleasure in participating in Aquafit exercises, first at the Sargent Park Pool, subsequently at the Rose and Max Rady Centre where she made many very good friends. Throughout Constances life she displayed great loyalty, honesty, integrity and love for her family, attributes she received as a legacy from her parents, which she in turn has passed on to her children. The family wishes to thank Drs. Jeremy Lipschitz and Alvin Schroeder for their care and compassion. No flowers by request. Donations may be made in her memory to the Cancer Care Manitoba Foundation, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3A 0C8. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will take place on Thursday, September 26 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Andrews River Heights United Church, Oak and Kingsway.
