EDDIE JURKOWSKI Our family sadly announces the sudden passing of Eddie on Saturday, September 21, 2002 at the age of 79 years. Eddie was born on December 11, 1922 in Winnipeg to the late Kazimira and Joseph Jurkowski. He is survived by his much loved wife of 47 years, Lorraine; children, Edward (Colleen) of Lethbridge, AB, Elaine of Carbondale, IL, David (Alison) of Winnipeg, Gary (Liz) of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Joren and Angela; brothers, Louis (Sophie), Stan (Elsie) of Winnipeg; sisters, Karoline Swirhun of Kenora, ON, Verna (Raymond) McMillan of Los Alametos, CA, Cecilia (Joe) McMillan of Victoria, BC, Louise (Marcel) Daeninck of Winnipeg; brothers-in-law, Frank (Georgina) Cielen of Winnipeg, Ray (Elizabeth) Cielen of Fountain Valley, CA, Larry Cielen of Winnipeg; many nieces, nephews and extended family. Eddie will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather with a wonderful sense of humour and a man who led by example. He retired after 37 years of service from the Manitoba Telephone System in 1987. In addition to his family, he was also devoted to service and building a caring community. Ed was a member of the St. John Cantius Polish Fraternal Aid Society as well as being a charter member of their Seniors Club where he held various executive positions. He was a fourth degree Knights of Columbus member, member of the Telephone Pioneers, and a founding member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish. Since his life was centered in the church, he held various positions over the years including lector, Eucharistic minister and pastoral council. Ed will be remembered as an avid gardener, reader, cyclist and someone who enjoyed music, working with tools and crossword puzzles. In his earlier years he was also a cub scout leader and advisor to young business leaders through Junior Achievement. Ed loved Christmas and will be ever remembered for the joy he shared during special family holidays. He valued and celebrated the various talents and achievements of his wife Lorraine and their children. He was attune to people, especially children who were drawn to him by his loving gentle manner. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, September 26, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, 505 Brewster St., with Fr. Wenceslao Rebillaco officiating. Viewing will take place one half hour prior to the mass. Interment will follow at Transcona Cemetery. Our family is grateful for the special care and concern taken over the years by Dr. Dennis Caners. We would also like to offer a particular note of appreciation to Dean Hofer from Home Care Services.
